words... words... words

Kristie Brooks is in town and we are having an absolute blast. Yesterday we went to yoga, had brunch in Cole Valley, walked the length of Haight Street (from Ashbury to Market), had a drink at Olive in the Tenderloin, stopped at Brian's place downtown to admire the view, and walked to the Castro for a stellar meal at a restaurant called Eureka. Then we came home and watched LOST (!!!!!) and as we were going to sleep I was reading an old EW, and came across a blurb about a DVD coming out called "The Air that I Breathe," and I'm pretty sure I've never laughed that hard in my life. (Not without Bruce and a coke machine, anyway.)

I'd like to preface this blurb with a disclaimer that I have not seen this movie, have never heard of this movie, and did not bother to look the plot up, so I have no idea how accurate the writer's description is. However, just the words "Sarah Michelle Gellar weeps as a sad rock star with a rare blood type whose career is under the thumb of Andy Garcia as a mean gangster named Fingers" and "Forrest Whitaker blubbers hysterically as an office drone who robs a bank" made me laugh so hard I cried. I mean.... seriously? SERIOUSLY? It just might be this year's Holiday in Handcuffs.

In other news, I got my nose stud swapped out for a tiny hoop, and who saw LOST last night??? A Desmond-centered episode wrapped around time-travel? I looooooooved it! It almost made up for last week's Kate Klunker(tm). Squeeeeeee!!

to sleep, perchance to dream

OK, Chapter 137 in Jamie's Crazy Dream Diary:

This morning I woke up and remembered my dream in hazy bits and pieces. Some little snatches included:

  • working at DFW airport,
  • my boy Blake working there too, and when I went to pick him up for lunch he was in a physical therapy session, in his office, in a hot tub full of bubbles,
  • being chased down the hallway by a squeaky grocery cart that no one was pushing and I couldn't run,
  • getting from floor to floor in my "office" via slide (I have no idea how we went back up),
  • Blake's car being parked on a street called Chimera Way,
  • cauliflower in the ice machine,
  • drinking red Hi-C, with cauliflower in it, natch
  • someone looking for the British me. Who, I tried to tell them, really does exist. Uncle Al met her.

Seriously, I think I should be studied. And although I don't quite remember it, the dream had a very linear storyline to it, and when I got to the denouement, my dream self thought, "whew! I'm so glad that wrapped up before my alarm; now I can get some rest!" and.... then my alarm went off.

Oh, and a couple of days ago I had a dream I was pregnant, and I was scared of the labor. TERRIFIED. Like, to the point of crying to the doctor that I wasn't ready and to please not make me have this baby. I think dreaming you are pregnant symbolizes some new idea or occurence in your life, so I wonder what is coming up that I am going to be wary to accomplish?

Weirdo.

as promised....

I told you guys a while back that I got a very fun surprise from Tom. I can't believe I forgot to tell you about it! OK, so, the Fed Ex man woke me up, handed me a package, and bolted- I was completely out of it, standing in the foyer in my boxers with my sleep mask pushed back on my ratty hair, rubbing my eyes... I'm sure he ran from my sheer loveliness. So I open up the package, and inside, in typical Tom fashion- no note- just a book. I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, by Amy Sedaris. Yay! I wanted it when it came out but just never got around to purchasing it. I'm so glad I waited- because Tom got it SIGNED!!!

Hilarious-- Amy Sedaris called me a LOSER! HEEEE! Thanks Tom-- no one likes a just-because present than me. Especially one that is SIGNED BY AMY SEDARIS. Whoop!

In other news, I've been enjoying my week off-- cleaning, yoga every day, FoodTV, sudoku-- it's been pretty laid back and I have been loving it. Unfortunately I have to go back to work on Monday, Kristie Brooks is coming to visit and I'm going to Salt Lake City... so life will get busy again in a couple of days. So I guess I'd better get back to my day.

I am the Walrus.

So, this week has suuuuuuuucked. I don't even want to talk about it. But the one shining star in this craphole of a week was that my friend Cyn got Ashley and me comp tickets to see LOVE at the Mirage. I have no words for how much I loved it. It was AMAZING. Of course you're not allowed to take photos in the show, but it was one of the most intricate, beautiful displays of theatrical dance, acrobatics, and grandeur I've ever seen- and set to BEATLES music, are you kidding me? Wow. I would gladly fork over $108 to see it again. Plus it's kind of an inside full-circle thing with Ashley and happened 4 days after her birthday, so it was all in all a really special Valentine event.

So, here's about two minutes as a glimpse... the filming doesn't do it even a little bit of justice, but my favorite scenes are mostly in the 2nd half-- Within You/Without You with the bedsheet tent thing- literally, a tent-sized sheet came out of a normal sized bed and covered the ENTIRE orchestra section of the audience. I usually hate audience involvement but I've never seen anything quite like it... then Help! with the rollerbladers, Revolution with the trampolines, and An Octupus's Garden with that beautiful, breathtaking jellyfish thing. OH, and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. And the Lady Madonna meets Stomp! dance in yellow Wellies. And For the Benefit of Mr. Kite. OK, yeah, I can't decide- I loved every moment.

Here's a longer one if you're interested- about 10 minutes. Koo-koo-katchoo!

rock the vote!

I don't have a lot of time today- but I wanted to remind every one whose state is participating in Super Duper Tuesday to get out and vote!! We actually have some fair candidates this go-around, unlike the Great Least Objectionable Alternative Election of 2004 (even bleeding-heart G has gone over the Republican side), so your vote matters!!!!

In other news, I want to tell you all about a very awesome surprise I received in the mail from Tom last week. I can't share it without a photo, though, so it'll be when I get back to San Francisco (on the 15th).

Things are crazy here- I worked 17 hours yesterday- but there will be updates s-o-o-n, I promise.

PS> If you're still unsure who to vote for, do a little research. If you still don't know- vote Obama.

Kisses!!
