Question: Are you still using the old version, the HTML version of blogger, or are you using the new XHTML version?
I assumer you're using the new one since you have the Twitter thing in your sidebar. Couldn't you do PotD in Flicker, and put a photostream in your sidebar on blogger?
As a current POTD-er, I'm a big fan of Flickr. I like the set up, ability to organize, etc. It works for me since I don't blog anymore. I'd just have a photostream on your blog like JT mentioned. Easy to keep organized and also easily linkable on the ol' blog.
